Here in Tech Tips Geek, we are in business of making thing as easy as possible. Some time it becomes very boring to copy or move some files or folders to any specific location of your hard drive in Windows XP. At first, you have to copy or cut the folder, navigate to the specific location and paste them. Is not a lengthy and time-consuming process ? Don’t worry. Here is some little registry tweak to make your job easy adding the Copy To and Send To entry in your right-click context menu ( read also Add Command Prompt To Right-click Menu).
You might know that you can play with your registry, if you are a computer geek. The feature is already built-in the Xp. Just Edit the registry by your registry editor and fun! This article is all about editing your registry. So keep the backup of your registry to be safe side. Follow the steps given below.
1. Open the registry editor typing “regedit” in Start > Run. Navigate to
2 .Right click on the “ContextMenuHandlers” and add a new key by New > Key.
3. Give the key name as “Copy To” (without quotes).
4. Repeat step 2 and give the new key name as “Move To” (without quotes)
Now You have the two keys “Copy To” and “Move To” under
Now click on “Copy To” Key. You should see ‘”Default” at the right pane. Double click on “Default”, a pop-up window will appear. Put the following value in the Vale field and press “OK“.
Perform the Same task for the “Move To” Key, just putting the following value
This will take care of the Copy To and Move To option For all the files and folder in your computer. Now You have to add the options in your right-click menu. For this You have to perform same type of task. But the key will be in different location.
How to add those option in your right click context menu
Create two Keys named Copy To and Move To in same way, previously shown.
Set the following key values for “Copy to” and “Move To” keys.
Now You have done the all your task. Just close the Registry Editor.
Right-click on any folder or file …..
Now the Copy To and Move To options are available in the right-click menu. Copy or Move Your files or folders wherever you want in a handy and quick method.
Another short process
If yo do not have the enough time to cover the above process or you don’t like to edit the registry, then you can get all the facilities I described above by two double clicks. I have made a download version for easy to work.
After downloading extract the Zip file and double-click on the .reg files one by one. You have done that you want.
Though the above tutorial has been described for Windows XP, it also works for Windows 7 and Vista as well.
