Anyone who have sat in front of a computer or is just a beginner in using computer must have come across Notepad. Notepad is one of the most basic applications rather a text editor which is present in almost every version of Microsoft Windows. It is very simple to use and comes with a very simple UI and considerably limited functionality.

Tip: Remove Older Notepad And Inject Latest Version Notepad2.

It has been a long time that replacements for this basic application is being searched for and those found close enough are not only better but free as well. In this race of being the best replacement for Notepad which has served the rookie level of computer users for years the one which comes into limelight is definitely Bend. Bend can at present serve as the default text editor for you.

Prerequisites :

Bend requires some features to be present in your system for its successful installation. These may be listed as follows :

  1. Microsoft .Net framework 4.0
  2. Windows Installer 3.1

Apparently Bend works on Vista and XP SP3 as well. As long as .net 4.0 works, Bend should work.
Beta/RC version of .net 4 framework run into installation problems. More about the .NET_Framework Versions lists.

Bend has all the features that you used in Notepad along with many additional features. These include tabs, syntax highlighting and even a better find and replace option. All these features are packed inside a very aristocratic UI.

After installing Bend, navigate to Settings and integrate the text editor with Windows Explorer. Once done with the above you can right click on any file and open it with Bend even if the extension is not of a text file.

Signing Off :

On the whole Bend serves to be a very useful and up to the mark replacement for the tool that has served all the versions Microsoft Windows for years. Bend has been successfully used on Windows 7 but according to the words of the developer, it should work on Windows XP and Vista systems as well as long as .NET 4.0 is available on your machine.
