Change Windows User Passwords From Command Prompt
Every one like to protect their computer from any third person. You can do so by applying a login password in Windows XP. Probably your friend is not the exception. So if you want to make a fun with your friend changing his password, you’ve to login to his Windows and then you can change the password of any user of that machine.
Tip: Save Your Computer from Keylogger
You might think that how is it possible? Because whenever you have tried to change the password from the control panel Windows prompted for the old password. There is some trick that allows you to change the password of any user from the command prompt without knowing the user password. Let me describe.
How to change the password of any user from the command prompt?
In the command prompt you can monitor all the user of the computer by typing some commands.
- Press Win Key+R and type “cmd” in the Run command box and hit enter to open command prompt.
- Type “net user” in the command prompt and hit “Enter“. This will show all the users of the computer.

Now suppose that you want to change the password of the user “xyz“.
So type the following command and hit enter.
net user <username> *
For instance in this example the user name is xyz. So the command should be
net user xyz *
Now in the comman prompt you will be prompted to enter a password for the user. Note that the ****** format is not available here. Put you password and hit “Enter“. You have to retype the password again for confirmation.

Voila! You have changed the password of the user without knowing the older password of the user. It is a simple hack to change the password of any user easily from the command prompt in Windows XP.
But the drawback of this technique is that you can’t change the password of the users if you do not have the Administrator privilege. So it is quite hard to change the password of the users without logging in as the administrator.
Can you log-in as Administrator in any computer?
Generally people does not put any password for the administrative account. You can use that hole to login as administrator. Follow the steps below.
Step1: Restart the computer and press F8 when booting.
Step2: Select the “Safe mode“.
Step3: Press “Alt+Ctrl+Del” when the logon screen appears.
Step4: Type “Administrator” in the user name field and hit “Enter“.
Now you will be logged into the Safe mode as the administrator. Here you can change the administrative password from the control panel. After changing that just restart the computer and log in as the administrator of the computer. Now you have the privilege of changing all the user password applying the command prompt trick.
But this trick is only applicable when the administrative password has been left blank.
