Check Out The Google Chrome OS Installing in Virtual Box or USB Drive

It is again Google. I wrote earlier an article Google has released Chrome OS virtual appliance. Google recently released the Chromium Operating System for virtual machine. This is not the fully functioned original operating system. Also read A Short Glimpse On The Google Chrome Operating System.

You can install Google chromium on usb stick (also read how to install Google Chrome operating system from usb flash drive) or in the virtual box or VMware workstation to get a brief idea about the OS . It does not work in Microsoft virtual machine. You can also install it in your USB flash drive and run from there. Google Chrome OS is open source so every day it is being improved and I’ll update you with the latest additions.Here I’ll describe two ways to installing the Google chrome OS in your system.

  1. How to install Google Chrome OS in the virtual box.(you can also install it in VMware workstation)
  2. How to install Google Chrome OS in your USB Flash drive. To run Chromium from Usb drive, login username and password are required.

How to install Google Chrome OS in the virtual box

  1. Download and install the Virtual Box. Please select the virtual box application according to your operating system.
  2. Download the Chromium OS image from the torrent file.(Thanks Amit and Raju)
  3. Now every thing is ready to install the Chrome OS in Virtual box. Start the virtual box. Select the “New” tab from top-left corner.google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-1
  4. You can give any name and Chose Linux from the drop down menu named “Operating System” and Ubuntu as version. You can also chose the different version but this one is generally preferred. Now click on Next.google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-2
  5. Adjust the base memory size. It depends on your system memory. I recommend that you should allocate the base memory size to one third of you system memory. My system memory is 1 GB so I’ve chosen 356 MB. Click on Next. google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-3
  6. In the appearing window chose the option “Use existing hard disk” and click the browse button at the right side of the drop down box.google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-4
  7. Now click on the Add and navigate the location of the Google chrome OS image file you have downloaded. After so click on select.google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-5
  8. Now click on Next and then Finish.

You have success fully installed the Google Chrome OS in the Virtual box.

To start the Google chrome OS start the virtual box application and click on Start.google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-6

Now the Google Chrome Operating System will boot and the login screen will appear.google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-7 Here you have to login with your Google account. If you do not have such account then create one from here. After successful login you can access the Google chrome OS in your Virtual box.google-chrome-virtual-operating-system-8

How to install Google Chrome OS in your USB Flash drive

  1. Get a USB drive of min 4 GB. Take a backup of all your important data that resides in the USB drive because the data will be wiped out when installing Google chrome OS in it.
  2. Download Chromium OS for USB drive via torrent (Right click and then Open link in new tab and save the torrent file). (Thanks to Jorge Sierra)
  3. The above torrent will be downloaded with the Google chromium OS for USB image file and the small utility Image Writer for Windows.
  4. Extract chrome_os_usb.zip. You may require an application to extract the zip file. Download IZArc.
  5. Launch Win32DiskImager.exe.
  6. You may get an error message but don’t panic. The message is displaying because it is searching for a floppy drive which is not there.google-chromium-operating-system-for-usb-1
  7. In the Win32 Disk imager window, locate the image file location, under the Device option chose the drive letter corresponding your USB device in your computer. Note that the image file must be stay in the same location where you have extracted the zip file and lunched the Win32DiskImager.exe. google-chromium-operating-system-for-usb-2
  8. Now click on write.

After taking a few time it will complete the total task to install the Google chromium OS in your USB flash drive.

How to start the Google chrome OS from your USB drive

  1. Just make ready your computer for booting from USB disk changing some setting in the BIOS.
  2. Insert the USB drive and restart you computer.
  3. The Google Chromium OS will automatically boot and you should get the login window. Here put chronos as username and Password as password. You will be logged in locally.google-chromium-operating-system-for-usb-3
  4. Once you logged in you should see exactly the same browser as Google Chrome Browser.
  5. Here if the Google Chromium OS supports your network adapter then you can be connected to your network. So it may not work for all.
  6. If every thing is okay then you can login with your Google Account and access the Google Chromium OS.

  3. Mate i Thik Your Site Is messed Up cuz the page is loading nd keeps on loading then show some error am using chrome is the problem with ma browser or your site ??
