Create or Delete System Restore Point Manually In Windows 7

Posted by Tanmay

If you are planning to make some experiment with the system files or installing some unknown application then it is always wise to keep your system backup image. So that you can get back to your previous stable system settings and system files if the system crashes down.

Tip: Re-enable Task Manager When Disabled by Virus

System restore point is so useful that represents your earlier stable state and you can safely back to any previous state using it without any system restore software. Though most of the programs create a restore point before installation, some program does not so in Windows. You can make a system restore point manually in Windows 7.

Again deleting all the system restore points except the recent one is a good practice to save the disk space. In this article we’ve discussed about how to create system restore point manually and delete all the older system restore points excluding the immediate one.

How to create System Restore Point manually

1. Right click on the Computer icon from the desktop or from Start menu and select Properties. It will open the system properties window from the control panel. You can also reach to this window by navigating through Control Panel > System and Security > System or pressing Win key + Pause/Break key.

2. Select “System protection” from the left side of the window. The “System properties” box will appear. Under System protection tab click on the “Create” button.

3. Now it will prompt to give a description of the restore point so that you can identify the restore point easily in future. After giving a suitable name click on “Create” button.

You are done. After a few seconds the new system restore point will be created.

How to delete the old restore points except the recent one

1. Right click on your root drive from “Computer” window. Select “Properties“.

2. Under the General tab, click on “Disk Cleanup“.

3. Now your system will calculate the estimated amount of space that can be free up.

4. The disc cleanup window will appear. Click on “Clean up system files“.

5. Window will again calculate the amount of space to be free up. It may take some minutes to complete.

6. After completion of the calculation you will find another tab “More Options” has been generated  in the “Disk Cleanup” window. Switch to that tab and and click on the “Clean up…” button under the “System Restore ans Shadow Copies” section.

7. Confirm the deletion by clicking on the “Delete” button.

You are done. All the old system restore points have been deleted but the latest on is available.
