Create Virtual Desktop In Windows Like Linux

Virtual Desktop is actually a group of desktop windows that facilitates you to keep yourself simultaneously in multiple workspaces virtually, while enabling you to stay in the same operating system and use the same system resources. You can easily change the Windows from one desktop to another for different functionality. Every application of different desktops have the different session id. So an application running on a desktop is not available on another desktop. This phenomenon obviously help you to play uniquely with the applications being executed on different desktops.

How to create a virtual Desktop for your Windows machine?

“Dexpot” is a software that allows you to create virtual desktops for your Windows machine. Download and install Dexpot. After installation you can see the different desktops in one window by double clicking on the icon from the system tray.

By default the number of virtual desktop is 4.

But you can increase the number as your need. To do so, right click on the system tray icon and select “Settings”. In the settings window you can chose your preferred number of desktops from the “General” menu in left side. You can also set various  options to customize the virtual desktops.

You can use up to 20 desktops. This application provides a wider region of interaction as it has the option to chose several language except English, like Italian, Spanish, French etc . You can change the language from the “Settings” option.

Another useful software to create virtual desktop is Desktops. The all you have to do to create virtual desktops with this software is to download Desktops. Extract it and run the executive file. At the starting of the application you’ll get a option to chose the hot keys.

Select them and click on “OK”. Now you can navigate to the desktops by pressing the hot keys. If you want to change the hot keys in later then just right click on the icon in the system tray and “Options”  and chnge the hot key as you prefer.

This application is lightweight and it does occupy a negligible amount of memory. For this reason it does not slow down your computer. The only down side of this application is that the maximum no of Virtual desktop is only 4 where that for the previous one was 20.

Both the application run in Windows 7, Vista and XP.
