By using Send To option, you can easily send files or folders to different locations including Desktop, My Documents, CD drive and many more. I think you would have seen it when you right-clicked on any folder or file. Now, the matter of fact is that every user has a Send To folder in his computer and it contains the shortcuts for files you are seeing into the Send To menu. You can though customize this Send To menu by adding more shortcuts in send to folder. By editing this Send To folder, you can make your work much easier.
Tip: Add command prompt in right-click menu.
For example, I have my own personal folder deep in my system. Now, I’ve added its shortcut in send to folder and from now, I just right-click on files or folders I need to copy in my personal folder and send them there easily through the Send to menu from the right-click options.
How to remove unwanted icons from send to menu
While you can add more shortcuts into your Send To menu, you can also remove the existing shortcuts from that. To remove a destination from the Send To menu just do the following task:
For Windows XP users:
1. To open Send To folder in windows XP. For that, go to Run command box or simply press Win+R and type ‘SendTo’ (without quotes) then press Enter.
2. Right-click on shortcut file you need to remove from Send To menu and click Delete. You’re done!!
For Windows 7 users:
1. To open Send To folder in Windows 7, press Start button and paste below code in the search box.
%UserProfile%\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Sendto
2. Right-click on the shortcut file you need to remove from Send To menu and click Delete.
How to add New paths in Send To menu
By Default, you may see these in your Send To folder:
- Compressed (zipped) Folder
- Desktop (create shortcut)
- Mail Recipient
- My Documents
- CD Drive
For both windows XP and 7 users:
- In order to Create new paths in Send To menu, you need to copy the shortcut of the desired path or follow these steps.
- Navigate to the folder or file you want to add in Send To menu.
- Right-click on that folder or file and select create shortcut.
- Copy that shortcut file int Send To folder.
This is how my Send To menu looks after doing above process
Note:
- Each profile in windows 7 has its own Send To menu, so if you have multiple users on your Windows 7, this will only change your account.
- If you want to add a location to the Send To menus of other users on the computer, you need to copy/remove the shortcuts into the other users’ Send To folders.
Warning:
- If are a newbie, better create a restore point before stating this process.
- Copy only shortcut files in Send To folder and don’t copy original file/folder.
