SecurStick: Carry Encrypted Files to Access From Anywhere

Posted by

We have written about how to encrypt or decrypt files earlier and also about the need to encrypt files. We are going to discuss here about the procedure that lets you to carry your encrypted files along with you and moreover allowing you to use them in any computer without enjoying the privilege of an administrator to the specified computer.

The application that facilitates this assignment is Securstick. It is simply a free application that is portable and  allows you to carry encrypted confidential files in a USB drive and by means of which you can access these files wherever you may wish.

How to achieve it :

1. The primary job in this regard is to download Securstick.

2.After the download has shown completion, unzip the downloaded application and copy this to your selected USB drive.

Double click on the applications file. A window pops up keeping you informs about the beginning of the process. You should not close the window while working. The window should look like the following :

During performing the previous operation you should also keep it in mind that your browser should also remain open.

Once opened, you will be required to provide a new password for the encryption to originate.

You will be shown certain instructions which you need to follow very carefully before setting the password. You must be sure to check the box “Encrypt file names”.

Once a new password has been created successfully, you will be automatically logged on to the Safezone. It is also to be notified that a virtual network drive has already been created.

Your job is almost done. Inputting files in this new virtual drive or your encrypted drive simply by copying them into this new drive. What you will find is that the time taken for copying files into this drive is much more than your usual copy operations. This is because of the encryption.Manual location of these files in USB drive is possible The address should be like this: “[USB Drive Letter]:\encrdata\data”. The folder “encrdata” is normally invisible since it has both “system” and “hidden” attributes.

Once finished ,simply log out of  the  browser or choose to close the securstick window.

Note:Logging out of the Safezone does not end it. All the local files retains a specific cache of all the unencrypted files in the personal computer being used by you. Make sure to clear up the cache memory applying the provided link(placed at the bottom of the safezone). This is only to ensure the fact that no traces are laft in the machine currently used by you.
