Having a Facebook fan page these days is necessary for all brands, no matter big or small. In fact there are hundreds of thousands of fan pages on Facebook. From a small coffee shop in your street to big retails like Walmart, all of them have a Facebook fan page. These pages are very often operated by their owners, and many of them don’t know how they can make it interesting and more effective.
Here are a few tips which can help you in making your fan page very interesting.
1. Create a Welcome Page
Believe it or not, Welcome pages are one of the best ways how you can attract people to your fan page. Whenever a new user who is not you fan, comes to you Facebook Page, he will be shown a welcome page rather than just your wall. You need to be a little creative to get the most out of these Welcome pages.
You can create a Photoshop portrait image which has a clean message of about 10-20 words and with very interesting designs and also a brief bio about your page. Once you have the design, you can simply upload it somewhere and place an FBML (similar to HTML) code to insert the picture on your fan page. This attracts users to hit the “Like” button and once they are your fan, they will be able to see your wall.
2. Organize and host giveaways
Hosting a competition or a giveaway is really helpful. With organizing giveaways, you have bright chances that people will be conservative with your fan page. Say for example, you have a gaming club, and you have a fan page for it. You can organize a giveaway of a popular game and in return ask your fans to spread the word, and ask other people to like your page, and one lucky fan would get a game CD for free!
It’s not necessary that you organize a physical giveaway, but you can also giveaway free Amazon or iTunes vouchers. This way your fan page can gain popularity, and also whenever you post anything, people would love to comment on it and like it so that they have a bright chance of winning.
3. Ask questions and Polls
Once you have a decent amount of fans, say about 100, then it is advisable that you ask them a question on any random topic or any other topic relevant to your fan page and also organize polls. This way, people would answer the questions if they know anything about them, and also in polls, they would vote for anything they like. This is a necessary step to keep your fan page active, and also remind your fans that they like this page.
Apart from this, you can also have a picture quiz everyday, in which you can put a picture of a person or a thing, and ask others to identify them. You can do this once a day, but not more than that as sometimes people may find it annoying and they may mark it as spam.

4. Answer back to questions
This isn’t a step to increase fans, but this will keep your existing fans engaged.
